HEIC to JPG Converter - Your Photos Never Leave Your Device

Drop in up to 50 HEIC photos at a time and get high-quality JPGs back in seconds. Nothing is transmitted, nothing is stored, nothing is logged. If you want to check for yourself, turn off your internet connection after this page loads — the converter will keep working.

What is HEIC Format?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is a modern image format introduced by Apple in iOS 11. It uses advanced compression technology to create smaller file sizes while maintaining excellent image quality. iPhones and iPads save photos in HEIC format by default because it takes up 50% less storage space than traditional JPG files.
However, HEIC isn't universally supported yet. Many devices, websites, and software applications don't recognize HEIC files, which is why conversion to JPG format is often necessary for sharing, uploading, or editing your photos.
Common reasons to convert HEIC to JPG:
- Sharing photos with Android or Windows users
- Uploading images to websites and social media platforms
- Editing photos in software that doesn't support HEIC
- Printing photos at local or online printing services
- Ensuring compatibility across all devices and platforms
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this HEIC to JPG converter safe to use?
Yes. The conversion happens entirely inside your own browser using JavaScript. Your HEIC files are never transmitted to our servers or to any third party, which means there is no copy of your photos anywhere but on your own device.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Unlike most online converters, nothing is uploaded. Your browser reads the file from your device, decodes it locally and writes out a JPG locally. You can verify this yourself: disconnect from the internet after this page has loaded, and the converter will still work.
Is there a limit on how many files I can convert?
You can convert up to 50 HEIC files in a single batch, and you can run as many batches as you like. There is no daily cap, no account and no paid tier. If you regularly work with large photo libraries, see our guide to batch converting HEIC to JPG.
Does converting HEIC to JPG reduce image quality?
JPG is a lossy format, so some quality loss is unavoidable when converting from HEIC. We encode at 92% JPG quality, which is high enough that the difference is not visible in normal viewing or printing, while keeping file sizes reasonable. There is more detail in our guide on converting HEIC to JPG without quality loss.
Why are my iPhone photos saved as HEIC instead of JPG?
Apple made HEIC the default camera format from iOS 11 onwards because it stores the same image quality in roughly half the space of a JPG. The trade-off is that many Windows programs, Android phones and websites still cannot open HEIC files, which is why conversion is often needed. We cover the background in why iPhone photos are HEIC.
Can I convert HEIC to JPG on an iPhone or Android phone?
Yes. The converter runs in the mobile browser on iOS and Android with no app install. Tap the upload button, pick your photos from the gallery, and save the converted JPGs back to your device. If you are moving photos between platforms, see our guide on sending iPhone photos to Android without HEIC problems.
HEIC Guides for Your Device
The converter above works on every platform, but HEIC behaves differently depending on the device you are using. These guides cover the specifics.
Converting HEIC on a Mac
macOS opens HEIC natively in Preview and Photos, so the problem is usually exporting rather than viewing. Preview can convert a selection in place, and Automator can handle whole folders without any third-party software. Our guide on how to convert HEIC to JPG on Mac walks through five free methods, including the Automator Quick Action approach.
Opening HEIC files on Windows
Windows 10 and 11 need the HEIF Image Extensions codec before File Explorer will show thumbnails or let Photos open a HEIC file, and the matching HEVC extension is a paid item in the Microsoft Store. Our guide on opening HEIC files on Windows 10 and 11 covers the codec install and the free alternatives if you would rather not pay for it.
Converting large photo libraries
Converting an entire camera roll one file at a time is not practical, and most batch tools rename your output files in the process. Our batch convert HEIC to JPG guide covers converting hundreds of photos at once while preserving the original filenames, on Windows, Mac and Linux.
Choosing a conversion method
Browser converters, desktop apps, built-in OS tools and command-line utilities each involve different trade-offs in quality, speed and privacy. Our HEIC to JPG conversion guide compares the main options so you can pick the one that fits your workflow.
